Pilates for a Strong Body and Mind

You are only one workout away from a good mood

Pilates trains the body as a whole focussing on core, lower and upper body strength as well as flexibility and posture.

The core muscles we concentrate on in Pilates are deep in the body and these Deep Stabilsers help stabilise your spine in the correct position.

A strong core is essential for proper load balance within the spine and pelvis, helping them work more efficiently and sparing the spine from excessive load.

Strength exercise improves bone strength and density, lowering the risk of osteoporosis.

These Pilates moves need concentration on one thing, your body, requiring you to clear your mind of distraction, so you can focus on breathing and being mindful of controlling all the movements.

De-stressing and building a strong mind at the same time as strengthening your body.

The Single Leg Stretch (pictured) is a core strength move for all the Deep Stabilisers but in particular concentrates on the deep tummy ones, such as your transverse abdominis.

Adding a Resistance Band (pictured) to the Single Leg Stretch brings in co-ordination of the upper body with the lower body, adding a bit of toning for the upper body, because of the tension on the band making your muscles work.

The weighted balls (pictured) can also be used to add a strength challenge to different exercises.

"Pilates is the complete co-ordination of mind, body and spirit."
